As with any tropical place, Nicaragua had beautiful, abundant, colorful flowers. These were taken on Isla Ometepe and near Laguna de Apoyo. For the record, Isla de Ometepe is the best-smelling place I've ever been!
After last nights game, I have to celebrate (especially in case my parade is rained on soon). Padres: in 1st place for the wild card in the National League, on a 7-game winning streak, and at home. Rockies: 4.5 games back, on a 5-game winning streak, and on the road. Rockies were up 1-0 until the Padres hit a single homer in the 9th to tie it. Finally, in the 14th inning, the Rockies win it! Woohoo! Way to go, guys! Sunday update: this parade hasn't been rained on yet! Rockies swept the Padres in San Diego, winning 8 straight and moving within 1.5 games of the wild card-yippee!
When I left you, dear readers, I was holding on for dear life in the brutal Patagonian wind, looking for a place to spend the night. Okay, maybe it wasn't that bad. But it was pretty bad. Anyway I got to the bus station in El Chalten after the bus out of town had already boarded and I had to ask the bus driver to find me the ticket seller so I could get on! Predictably, she was taking a break, but luckily it was a break with the bus driver. Anyhoo I got a ticket and had a couple hours to relax and thaw out on the way back to Calafate. It is kind of nice, when traveling, to get to a city that is even the slightest bit familiar. Apparently the downside of that is that I didn't take a single picture this time. Oops. Even though I only spent 2 nights in Calafate I knew the main street and was able to find my new hotel easily. Did you notice I said hotel? Not hostel? Well I decided it was time to splurge a little bit and I sure did enjoy the luxury of not only my own room but also...
A picture's worth a thousand words, right? Not much more needs to be said than these photos...there is a dock at the hostel that goes out over the lake, and it was a perfect place to watch one of the most stunning sunsets I've ever seen. (Note the nearly full moon in the bottom photo-this was in the opposite direction of the actual sunset!) Yeah, I'll be framing some of these beauties when I get home!
